Occupational Therapist - Anticipated Vacancy (January - June 2025)

Rock Brook School is currently looking to onboard a full-time or part-time school-based Occupational Therapist (beginning in late December 2024 or early January 2025 through the end of the school year).  This position could possibly continue into the 2025-26 school year.

Rock Brook is a private, non-profit school for children with communication challenges and developmental disabilities from age 5 through age 21. We currently have 50 students from 26 school districts in central New Jersey.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Possess a Certification/License as an Occupational Therapist, meeting New Jersey Department of Education requirements

The following examples of work are for illustrative purposes only.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Coordinate services for special needs students, preschool through high school.
  • Analyzes, draws conclusions, and communicates student assessment data, makes individual and program recommendations when needed, and makes program recommendations based on the analysis of this data. 
  • Use formal and informal assessment procedures to develop individualized sensory motor and occupational therapy goals in order to enhance students’ gross motor and fine motor as well as social and emotional development.
  • Select instructional goals that are appropriate, clear, suitable for diverse students and balanced for different types of learning
  • Provide individual and small group and classroom occupational therapy sessions, including planning and organizing appropriate lessons.
  • Engage students in learning with consideration for content, activities and assignments, student groupings, instructional materials and resources.Writes student reports and attends parent/teacher conferences; assists in the development of IEPs, which includes establishing occupational therapy goals
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date lesson plans, students’ progress in learning, and non-instructional records. 
  • Create a positive learning atmosphere environment in order to achieve occupational therapy goals.
  • Recommend and demonstrates activities to parents and instructional team members as needed
  • Share professional ideas and resources with other staff members.
  • Enforce appropriate Federal and State regulations and school policies; handles personal information and records in a discrete manner.
  • Assist classroom teachers and teacher aides in the use of equipment and supplementary materials to aid student progress.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of IDEA and NJ Codes related to special education.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy methods, materials, and equipment and their utilization.
  • Ability to physically lift, move, and position students as needed.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and detailed student progress and other reports of occupational therapy findings and progress.
