Description Overall description: The College Counselor ensures that all students develop a comprehensive post-secondary plan that aligns
with the school’s mission of preparing scholars for acceptance and success at top colleges and universities. This role requires a
strong focus on securing scholarships and building relationships with prestigious institutions. The College Counselor will guide
students and their families through every step of the college application process, develop a robust college and career readiness
program, and work collaboratively with faculty, parents, and external partners to support scholars' success.

Responsibilities:
Individualized College Planning & Guidance:
? Develop personalized college admissions strategies for each
student, focusing on admission to top-tier universities and the
securing of merit-based scholarships.
? Provide comprehensive, step-by-step counseling on the entire
college application process, including application submissions,
essay writing, interviews, and financial aid.
? Guide scholars in selecting colleges that match their academic,
career, and personal goals, with an emphasis on maximizing
scholarship opportunities.
? Prepare students for standardized testing (SAT, ACT, AP, etc.) to
meet graduation and college admission requirements, tracking
progress and recommending prep resources as needed.
2. Scholarship & Financial Aid Support:
? Identify and promote scholarship opportunities for students,
building partnerships with foundations, corporations, and
college financial aid offices to secure scholarships.
? Conduct workshops for students and families on FAFSA
completion, financial aid literacy, and scholarship applications.
? Develop a scholarship tracking system to monitor application
submissions, deadlines, and scholarship awards.

3. College & Career Program Development:
? Design and implement a robust college and career readiness
program for grades 9-12, incorporating career exploration,
college tours, internships, and college preparation events.
? Organize and lead school-wide college and career fairs, inviting
representatives from top colleges, universities, and industry
leaders to interact with students.
? Foster strong relationships with admissions officers and college
recruiters from prestigious universities to create direct
pathways for scholar admissions.
4. Parent & Community Engagement:
? Lead regular parent information sessions on the college
application process, scholarship opportunities, NCAA eligibility
for athletes, and financial aid.
? Collaborate closely with families to ensure they are active
participants in their child’s college and career planning, and
help resolve college-related concerns.
? Utilize community resources and alumni networks to expand
counseling services and provide students with real-world career
exposure.

5. Collaboration & Team Leadership:
? Provide professional development and training for teachers,
administrators, and staff on college readiness, scholarship
applications, and career integration strategies.
? Work closely with faculty to ensure accurate and timely
completion of all documentation, including teacher
recommendations, transcripts, and application materials.
? Serve as the liaison between students, teachers, and external
organizations, facilitating partnerships to enhance the school's
college counseling services.
6. Data Management & Reporting:
? Maintain meticulous records of all scholars' college application
materials, standardized test scores, letters of college
acceptance, scholarships awarded, and financial aid
documentation.
? Ensure that student-athletes profiles and required information
are updated and maintained in the NCAA Eligibility Center.
? Yearly assess and update the school profile on Common App.
? Regularly report on college acceptance rates, scholarship
awards, and post-secondary plans to school leadership.
7. External Engagement & Networking:
? Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with college
admissions representatives, scholarship committees, and other
school counselors to share best practices and opportunities for
students.
? Organize visits to and from college representatives, creating
opportunities for students to engage with top universities and
scholarship providers.
